I’m glad the 2015 African Cup of Nations will go ahead, and interested to see how well thing are organized given the short time period. The only thing I don’t like about Africa’s showpiece tournament is that it’s in the middle of the season but, as pointed out, there’s reason for that.

With Nigeria out, I’m even more interested in speculating whether this tournament will provide a positive for African football after the, mostly, disastrous 2014 World Cup outings. Nigeria’s the only team from the World Cup participants not to make it to the tournament and that’s probably indicative of more problems in that federation.

As for Morocco, whether they opted out due to prejudice, pragmatism or otherwise, we’ll see what the full consequences are in due time.
