Crystal Palace host Arsenal during the second week of the Premier League season in what should be a fascinating encounter. Arsenal won both meetings last season by 2-1 scorelines, but both games ended with the Gunners lucky to have three points. Both teams are coming off different results in Week 1, with Arsenal losing at home to West Ham while Crystal Palace beat Norwich City. Here are the key matchups in this game.

5. Scott Dann vs. Olivier Giroud

Olivier Giroud was poor in the first game against West Ham, but he will get a chance to redeem himself due to his physicality and aerial prowess. He scored against Crystal Palace the last time these teams met and can draw confidence from that. Scott Dann won’t be easy opposition, though. The Crystal Palace defender will match up with the Frenchman on set pieces and in open play, and he will look to match Giroud in every aspect.

4. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain vs. Papa Souare

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was Arsenal’s best attacking threat on a poor day and will look to continue that form against Crystal Palace. Souare continued his solid preseason form with an assist for one of Crystal Palace’s goals and looked solid defensively. This game will be a big battle on the wings on both ends, and whoever gets the edge here may help his side to victory.

Yohan Cabaye vs. Aaron Ramsey

Yohan Cabaye’s return to the Premier League couldn’t have been better. The Frenchman scored a goal and put in well-rounded display. He and Aaron Ramsey will be matched up against each other as their more defensive minded partners tend to the opposition’s attacking midfield. Whoever can provide more support on both ends of the pitch will help his side win the midfield battle.

2. Wilfried Zaha vs. Nacho Monreal

Crystal Palace’s key attacking threats are on the wings, and Wilfried Zaha is one such player. Zaha has been really good since returning to Crystal Palace and, like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, is looking to add more goals to his game. Nacho Monreal usually chooses his forays forward carefully and will have to be even more cautious as Zaha has the pace and trickery to be a real menace down his side.

1. Jason Puncheon vs. Hector Bellerin

Hector Bellerin will likely return to the Arsenal starting lineup in a bid to give the defense some more pace. Bellerin improved immensely last season and will be extremely useful against Palace. He will face one of Crystal Palace’s dangermen in the form of Jason Puncheon. It will be a finely balanced battle, and if Bellerin loses focuses, or shows his inexperience, then Arsenal will be in serious trouble.
