Atletico Madrid and Sevilla is one of the top matches in La Liga this weekend. These two teams will be looking to challenge the duo of Barcelona and Real Madrid and are in direct competition for a spot in the Champions League next season. There will be some great individual battles across the park that could decide this key early-season game. Here are five of the most important ones.

5. Yevhen Konoplyanka vs. Juanfran

Konoplyanka was brought in to provide some extra goal-scoring punch from the wing. The Ukranian attacker has a venomous shot, as well as good pace and dribbling skills. Juanfran is a wily veteran who provides good energy for Atletico up and down the right flank. It will be interesting to see how these two match up.

4. Gabi vs. Ever Banega

Two combative midfielders will be in each other’s faces constantly when this game gets going. Ever Banega is Sevilla’s creative man from the middle, and Atletico captain Gabi will be tasked with stopping him. Banega can drift in and out of games, but if he’s on form then Sevilla have a great chance of getting a result.

3. Jose Gimenez vs. Kevin Gameiro

While his partner and compatriot, Diego Godin, will be looking to organize the defense, Jose Gimenez will be tasked with shutting down Kevin Gameiro. Gameiro is expected to take over the goalscoring from the departed Carlos Bacca. The Frenchman was solid in a substitute role last season, but the pressure will be on him to convert the chances Sevilla are sure to create.

2. Koke vs. Benoit Tremoulinas

Koke is Atletico Madrid’s main creative force despite starting on the wings when the side plays a 4-4-2. The Spanish midfielder’s ability to produce a well-placed pass or cross from deep is a big weapon for Atletico. Tremoulinas will look to shut down the right-winger and force him to defend as well with runs forward.

1. Antoine Griezmann vs. Daniel Carrico

Antoine Griezmann picked up where he left off with the match-winning goal for Atletico Madrid. His pace and movement, along with an improving clinical touch, means he’ll be the main attacker for Atletico this season. Sevilla were without Daniel Carrico against Malaga and survived, but with Adil Rami’s lack of pace, the Portuguese defender is essential to slowing Griezmann.
