Tottenham and Everton has the makings of an exciting match on paper. Both sides have some good talent throughout the squad and are in direct competition for Premier League spots this season. Tottenham may still be without Christian Eriksen, making the other battles even more important for the London side. Here are five key matchups when Tottenham face Everton.

5. Moussa Dembele vs. Brendan Galloway

Moussa Dembele has been one of the more consistent performers for Tottenham to start the season. He’s an experienced competitor who’ll be going against an Everton youngster who has performed admirably so far. Galloway suffered a knee injury against Manchester City and may be replaced by Tyias Browning. Either way, Everton will be hoping Dembele isn’t able to take advantage of their inexperience defensively.

4. Nacer Chadli vs. Seamus Coleman

When Nacer Chadli is on his game he is match-winner for Tottenham. Even on some of his poorer days he can come up with goals to get Spurs much-needed points. Seamus Coleman provides endless energy down the flank for Everton but will have to be wary of the Belgian.

3. Harry Kane vs. John Stones

Two of England’s young talents, Harry Kane and John Stones, will be the subject of constant analysis before the match. Stones has started the season well despite constant transfer speculation, but Kane is yet to get off the mark now that he’s a known entity. Can Kane get the better of a fellow burgeoning talent to get his season up and running?

2. Romelu Lukaku vs. Toby Alderweireld

Romelu Lukaku will face two of his international teammates when Everton play Tottenham. The fact that the central defensive duo of Vertonghen and Alderweireld know Lukaku well makes this battle interesting. Alderweireld has a bit more pace than his partner and will match up with Lukaku as a result. The Belgian forward has been in good form to start the season and is hard to stop when full of confidence.

1. Ross Barkley vs. Eric Dier

Ross Barkley is another Everton attacker full of confidence after a good start to the season. Eric Dier will continue to play in midfield, and his natural defensive traits make him the ideal candidate to mark Barkley. Everton find things tougher when Barkley has an off day, so Dier will be crucial to halting the Toffees’ success.
