I guess we’re giving Frank Lampard some more time before ending up on this list. I think the ranking is a bit skewed. If players like Denilson and John O’Brien barely played a game you think they would be higher but there’s certainly good evidence there that each player is worthy of being on the list.

Admittedly, the only one I know of for sure and have seen play is Gabriel Barbosa. I could see him headed to Porto. Others I’ve heard and, of course, seen on FM. We’ll see how many do end up in Europe this summer on beyond.

Yay, its transfer time again. Zlatan shows up on both lists because he’s a boss like that. I agree with the top 10 transfers list but as far as the free transfers go, I don’t think many teams will be stumbling over each other to get Kolo Toure, Gaston Ramirez, Martin Demichelis, Gregory Van der Wiel or Michael Carrick even though they are free transfers. Could probably even add Terry to that list. The fact that the majority of them are Premier League players also lessens the interest as I’m sure there are players elsewhere in Europe who could be considered.

Really great read here. FIFA has a number of big issues to tackle moving forward and this is certainly one of them.

Can Juventus Realistically Keep Hold of Leonardo Bonucci? | Bleacher Report
It’s getting closer to that time of year, I guess. The speculation and rumours will start to come think and fast. I don’t think there’s anyway Bonucci leaves Juventus regardless of who comes calling. I actually think Paul Pogba might stay too. If he looks back on this season he’ll know that he still needs to show he can be the superstar consistently. Juventus gives him the best chance at doing that currently, without added pressure of a monumental transfer fee etc.
How football clubs calculate the cost of buying players in the transfer market | Football | The Guardian
Great read here. So many factors go into transfers, especially when there’s a certain type of player a few clubs are looking for. Interesting reading more about Southampton’s approach.

Do Manchester United Need to Rethink Their Transfer Policy? | Bleacher Report
Yes, they do need to change it. The majority of the overhaul is now done. Now it’s time to add quality where needed but also build for the future. I think that will fall on the next manager to take charge at United

Really great piece here from Simon Kuper on this recent transfer window and how it related to his book “Soccernomics”
Transfer market is not a magic fix for a team’s issues – ESPN FC
Transfer market is not a magic fix for a team’s issues – ESPN FC
Very valid points. No need to go downgrading FIFA and Football Manager, especially FM, in the process but good piece overrall. I think everybody does get caught up in transfers, which is why some managers want the window closed before the season. It gives time for everyone to do what they are going to until January. Focus on the football. I guess there is the possibility that folks, whenever issues arrive for their side during the season, will point to a lack of transfers here or a poor transfer there.

Good piece with some good points. Will any of the big signings in the Premier League really affect that much change on the title race? It’s possible but I would agree with the author that the onus is on the existing players. All of them, new and old, will play their part but I don’t think any of the new signings are such significant game-changers, despite how good they may be.
