Sebastian Giovinco’s Italy snub hurts MLS’s plans to be a ‘league of choice’ – ESPN FC
As I mentioned in a previous post, the omission of Pirlo isn’t as big a deal as Giovinco’s omission. The Toronto star is becoming the face of the league and was the league’s first real signing of a high-level European talent in their prime. If he doesn’t get any further looks into a national team where his skills would be useful then others may reconsider.

I guess we’re giving Frank Lampard some more time before ending up on this list. I think the ranking is a bit skewed. If players like Denilson and John O’Brien barely played a game you think they would be higher but there’s certainly good evidence there that each player is worthy of being on the list.

Frank Lampard is the worst signing in MLS history – he must call it quits at New York City FC 4
At 37 years old, there isn’t much else that Lampard can offer and his injury problems won’t go away. So, yeah, probably not too harsh to consider the worst if not one of the worst signings in MLS history.

Maybe the MLS will expand to the point that there’s enough teams for two leagues and promotion/relegation? Seems like that’s the way things are headed

Good read here. Definitely another issue for the MLS to contend with. You can certainly understand why MLS away day travel is much harder than elsewhere. Difference in sporting culture plays a part in that but its undoubtedly mainly financial.

The MLS has definitely come a long way. It’s sort of amusing reading about that first game. Lots of progress both on and off the pitch for the league but, as the author in the second article says, there’s still a long way to go.

Why doesn’t MLS recruit more players from Asia? | Football | The Guardian
Good piece here. You can’t argue with any of the reasons mentioned. Bigger salaries in Asia and the allure of Europe pretty much sum up the challenges in that respect for the MLS. That may in change in time as the quality of the league continues to improve it should attract a lot more attention.

Some very interesting responses from the MLS. That list of overrated players seems like sour grapes to me, especially when they decide to include the Clint Dempsey and Michael Bradley. The argument about being overpaid is somewhat valid but as one other player response states, you can’t blame players for being overpaid. You also can’t judge 3o-odd year old players something’s like Andrea Pirlo and Lampard who are coming cross-continent and adjusting to new style, travel etc. So, yeah. That list is pretty ridiculous.

Has MLS been hurt by departures like Miazga Martins Nemeth – ESPN FC
Has MLS been hurt by departures like Miazga Martins Nemeth – ESPN FC
The MLS has grown so much that these moves don’t have a significant effect.
The Martins move isn’t particularly surprising considering he’s played for a number of teams.(I don’t agree that he’s off chasing his next payday). The league continues to attract well-known foreign talent so there won’t be too much worry there. The Miazga move was surprising as well but there will be more young American talent to come through so no biggie there either.

The biggest question facing all 20 MLS teams ahead of 2016 – ESPN FC
I’m not a huge fan of MLS by any means but it does interest me from time to time. I’m really fascinated to see how last year’s expansion teams, especially Orlando City and New York City FC do this year. The LA Galaxy will be worth a watch as well. And can Giovinco continue to light things up? He should, since he’s in his prime, but who knows.
