Yes. Let’s put the referee in the spotlight before the game, because we know that will work out well for him. It will be a tight and edgy encounter but I had no thoughts about the referee heading into things.

Both penalties were soft, especially Leicester City’s, the Vardy call was correct and the game didn’t necessarily get out of hand. Could Jon Moss have had a better game overrall? Yes. Still no need for the criticism that came his way from all corners. Certainly agree with the author that his performances in the future could be affected.

Would it really make a difference to how much abuse referees are subject to? Possibly. I think it would be nice to hear from the referees more often.(Especially in the Premier League)

Yeah, I did the whole linesman at a youth game once and refereed some games at a youth camp. Not too bad but I definitely wouldn’t consider Sunday league games etc. Interesting read.

So, question. After reading this are we going to stop whining about the referees? Doubtful. Yes, there are disastrous decisions made sometimes but referees are still human and 9 times out of 10 they call a good game. The increased media scrutiny and pressure to win that teams face doesn’t help them either.
