Well, you could add Angel Di Maria to that list as well but one can always argue against him being a flop, and Ozil as well. To counter the author’s arguments we could present, Alexis Sanchez, Diego Costa, Cesc Fabregas as examples of being worth the fee. It’s really not about the fee anymore as there are countless other factors that contribute to a transfer working out or not.

Any possibility of Manchester United getting as good as Real Madrid gets in this deal definitely hinges on Sergio Ramos. As the author said, it’s a matter of when, not if, David De Gea is leaving.

If he leaves for a fee, unlikely to be a big one, and Ramos doesn’t go the other way then Madrid wins. I don’t see Ramos in Manchester at this time, though he has a former teammate in Di Maria and fellow Spanish nationals, Ander Herrera, Juan Mata and Victor Valdes.

Below is another good piece on the matter.

Pretty much agree with all the suggest destinations. I think for Cabaye you could include Tottenham, Illarramendi could possibly make it in Italy, not sure who though, and Rafael would be solid in Spain.

I really don’t see a lot of these keepers moving to be honest. I think the movements will only begin if David De Gea leaves Manchester United but then Victor Valdes is already as a replacement. Why sign him when you may think about signing someone else? Unless it’s one of the younger guys mentioned.

Very interesting list. If Arsenal didn’t have the plethora of midfielders available I would be mad if we didn’t go for Andre Ayew. My favorite Ghanaian, and possibly African, player. Maybe we shift Walcott permanently to centre-forward, have Ox and Welbeck on the right and him and Sanchez on the left? No? I’d probably do that in Football Manager to be honest.

Memphis Depay Man United hype could be damaging – ESPN FC.

Very interesting read.

Silly season will be in full swing shortly and we’ve already had a few fascinating rumours. Fans will undoubtedly raise their hopes about possible newcomers, especially those they don’t know. We kind of touched on this a way back with that piece from The Set Pieces about armchair scouts. Everybody has to know everything and if you don’t you’re behind the times or not a fan etc. Except, nowadays, knowing things comes down to watching a few Youtube clips and reading a few scout reports. As the author states, fans will expect the previously unknown player to perform magic because of a big fee etc. because they want something better than what they have, or feel the options they already do know aren’t good enough.

Transfer season should be fun.
